Diarrhea
The problem of antibiotics is that they do not only kill the bacteria, which cause various illnesses, but they kill friendly bacteria as well. Friendly bacteria are very important for the human organism as they help to regulate stool consistency and help with the digestion. If these bacteria are eliminated the stools become frequent, loose and watery. This often happens with some antibiotics but you should not worry, as it is not dangerous. Nevertheless, there can occur severe cases of diarrhea after the usage of antibiotics. In such situations, a person can have up to 8 stools a day. If you experience antibiotic-induced diarrhea, you can do the following:
Take Acidophilus, which is the powder-like substance of the normal intestines flora. If you take this while using antibiotics and two weeks after it, you will prevent diarrhea.
Decrease the dosage of the antibiotics
Ask your doctor whether he can advice more intestine-friendly drugs.
If you have a severe diarrhea, stop using antibiotics.
Immediately consult a doctor if you have a bloody, frequent diarrhea after the usage of antibiotics.
Intertrigo
There are two main types of intertrigo, which can occur because of the usage of antibiotics:
- Contact intertrigo, which can occur from the loose stools.
- Fungal intertrigo, which is caused by the absence of normal flora in the intestines.
There are some methods, which can prevent intertrigo during the course of antibiotics. One can use Acidophilus for intertrigo prevention. The other technique is applying barrier cream around your anus. If you notice severe symptoms of intertrigo, stop using antibiotics and consult your doctor.
Oral moniliasis
Antibiotics kill normal flora of your mouth that is why oral moniliasis can sometimes occur. Inside the mouth, yeast is overgrown and a person can notice white patches on the tongue, gums, in the cheeks and under the lips. To prevent oral moniliasis you can use aAcidophilus while taking antibiotics.
