PHS Counselor's Office Available Scholarship

Below are some of the scholarships that have come across my desk.  Many of these you seniors have already heard about.  If you wish to get more information on these scholarships you may access many of them on-line or stop by my office for applications. Check back to this list regularly as I will be adding to it as new scholarships come to my attention.   If you have not done a scholarship search this is an excellent way to find more scholarships you may be eligible for.  Check another article I have published on this site that details that information.

.AXA Achievement Scholarships

Number:62

Amount:$10,000 or $25,000

Deadline:12/15/2005

How To Apply:Online

Criteria:Although they will be looking at academics and activities, the emphasis seems to be on significant individual volunteerism to the community. For details and to apply, go to www.axa-achievement.com.

Comments:There will be one $10,000 winner in each state, plus 10 national winners who will receive an additional $15,000 each. As with all national programs, applicants need to have accomplished something very major and significant on an individual basis in order to be competitive in this program.


Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarships

Number:250

Amount:50-$20,000 and 200- $4,000

Deadline:10/31/2005

Criteria:The traits used for selection are: demonstrated leadership, commitment to the community, academic achievement, and employment. While the application asks for family income, this is NOT used in the selection process.

Comments:Since this is a national program, applicants should be well-qualified in all four areas used in the selection process. While there are 250 scholarships available, last year there were nearly 80,000 applicants. When applying on-line, you will be asked for our school's CEEB number, which is 172-747.


SAE Engineering Scholarships

Number:Not specified

Amount:Range form $400 - $6,000

Deadline:12/1/2005

How To Apply:Application from counselor

Criteria:ACT scores, GPA, class rank, employment record, essay on your goals in engineering related to the automotive field.

Comments:This is a collection of various scholarships, some of which must be used at specific universities; others may be used at any university. Applicants must major in engineering or a closely related automotive field. There is a $5.00 application fee.


 

Careers in Agriculture Scholarship Program

Number:20

Amount:$1,000.00

Deadline:3/1/2006

How to Apply:Application for counselor or online

Criteria:Career goals, ag-related or leadership programs or projects in which the applicant has been involved, essays on why ag cooperatives are important and your interest in a career in agriculture, financial need, and two letters of reference.

Comments:Applicants must plan to enroll in a 2-year or 4-year program leading to a degree in agronomy, crop production, or a closely related field. An application can be downloaded at www.agriliance.com.


Mossanto Imagine Commitment to Agriculture Scholarships

 Monsanto imagine Commitment to Agriculture Scholarships

This scholarship was established in 1999 and Monsanto has awarded farm youth pursuing an education and career in agriculture with over $1,000,000.00.  This year in partnership with the National Association of Farm Broadcasters, they are once again awarding 100 high school seniors with $1500.00 scholarships.

The Discover Card Tribute Scholarship Program for Juniors

Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship Program

 The Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship  is unique in that it is one of the few that is directed to juniors.

This scholarship provides up to ten $25,000.00 national scholarships and up to 300 $2,500.00 scholarships.  This tribute honors the all-around accomplishments of juniors in their community as well as at school.  Test scores nor financial need is considered.  This scholarship allows it winners to use their scholarship for any type of U. S. post-secondary education or training in any certified training program, trade and technical school, community college, two or four year college or university they choose. 

Juniors who have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 for the 9th and 10th grades who take lead, have experienced a significant obstacles and who are giving back to their communities. 

 Juniors should go to www.discovercard.com/tribute.htm for information, apply online, to download an application, and for frequently asked questions.  If you don't have internet access, call 866-756-7032. 

The 2006 Sam Walton Community Scholarship

Deadline January 20, 2006

The Sam Walton Community Scholarship is available on line from November 1, 2005 through January 20, 2006.  Interested graduating high school seniors need to logon to www.walmartfoundation.org for more information.  These students will apply for the Sam Walton Community Scholarship on-line at www.scholarshipadministrators.net.  Applicants must use the access code (SCWS) to complete the application process.  No paper applications are available.  

In addition to submitting the online application, students must submit all required information to Scholarship Administrators (SPA) as directed on the ont line application by January 20, 2006.  Applications submitted after the deadline or to any other address will not be forwarded and will be considered ineligible.

This scholarship is a nonrenewable $1000.00 for a student's first year of undergraduate study at an accredited college or university.  To qualify, the student must be a graduating high school senior and may not be a Wal-Mart or SAM'S CLUB Associate, or be the child or legal dependent of a Wal-Mart or SAM'S CLUB Associate.

Learn and Work Scholarship

Amount:

6 at $4,000

Any accredited college in Nebraska

Requirements:

Must be in upper 1/3 of graduating class; must have ACT of 20 or higher; must complete application posted on the Lincoln Journal-Star website (http://www.journalstar.com/homeroom) ;must have financial need; must be willing to work 300-500 hours if recipient of award

Deadline:

December 31  

Gates Millennium Scholars Program...Nomination Forms

Amount:

Varies -- based on need, generally pays for full cost of college expenses

To Attend:

Any accredited college -- full time status

Requirements:

Must be of African American, Native American, Hispanic American, or Pacific Islander heritage; must have a minimum 3.3 GPA; must qualify for a PELL Grant (demonstrated financial need); must be a citizen or permanent U.S. resident

Deadline:

January 13

Additional Information:

Must have an adult nominator and recommender. Materials available on website www.gmsp.org

NELNET College Planning Scholarship

Amount:

$1000 (one given each week between September and March)

To Attend:

Any Accredited College or University

Requirements:

Must be a graduating senior; visit the NELNET website and register to win

Southeast Community College Foundation Scholarship

Amount:

$500 (many awarded)

To Attend:

Any campus of Southeast Community College

Requirements:

Must be a graduating senior planning to attend SCC; must be a U.S. citizen; should rank in the top half of the class; must submit a transcript and brief personal statement

Art Institute of Colorado Scholarship Competition

Amount:

Two two-academic year scholarships ($50,560)

Eight one-academic year scholarships ($25,280)

To Attend:

The Art Institute of Colorado

Requirements:

Must be a graduating senior with talent in one of the art areas; each art area has specific requirements/portfolio or work, etc. to be judged; letters of recommendation are required

American Legion Auxiliary Spirit of Youth Scholarship

Amount:

Five awards at $1,000 each renewable for four-years

Requirements:
