2006 Mock Election Results

NEBRASKA STUDENT VOTE 2006
On Monday, October 30, Prague secondary students participated in the Nebraska Student Vote project. Grades 7 through 12 participated in the mock election. Results of the Prague vote were reported to the web site of the Nebraska Secretary of State. Voting took place in Nebraska schools between Monday and Wednesday and final results were tallied on the web site Thursday afternoon. The Nebraska Student Vote is a project of the Nebraska Secretary of State's Office and the Omaha World-Herald. Statewide results are found at www.nestudentvote.com
Dave Heineman captured the Governor's race with 52 votes (80%) to David Hahn's 10 votes (16%). Barry Richards and Mort Sullivan totaled 3 votes (4%) of the school vote.
Ben Nelson (D) defeated Pete Ricketts (R) 51 to 14 in the U.S. Senate race. Jeff Fortenberry (R) defeated Maxine Moul (D) 50 to 15 capturing 77% of the student vote.
Students also cast votes on measures 421, 422, and 423. Initiative 421, the Video Keno gaming devices measure, was passed by students 54 to 11 (83% to 17%). Initiative 421 was defeated in the November 7th election.
The referendum measure 422 to retain or repeal LB 126 was repealed by the students 53 to 12 or 81.5% to 18.5%.
Initiative 423 to amend the State Constitution to include a state spending limit was defeated by students 45 to 20.
