Can you believe it, our season of
one-act play has drawn to an end. It was a busy and exciting
year. With a cast of 23 students, we competed at conference,
districts, and gave a performance for our home town of Prague.
Our hectic practice schedule kept us on our toes, however,
the students managed to make the year successful with their
positive attitudes, honoring all their commitments, and most of
all; having fun.
It wasn't always easy
scheduling a practice. The students of Prague are often
involved in many activities and meeting. It isn't unusual for
a student to arrive at school before the sun comes up and leave for
home when the sun sets. That's what sets our kids apart from
other schools. They have the most grueling schedule,
yet they approach it daily with honor, commitment, and energy.
We often schedule two practices a day, morning and afternoon.
All their hard work paid off because the students put on a
outstanding performance.
The play we performed was
The Ever
After by Nathan
Hartswick. It is a comical "spoof" about fairy tale
characters and modern day talk shows. Many fairy tale
characters, including Cinderella and Snow White, are reunited
on a talk show after 20 years of estrangement. Filled with
crazy infomercials, obnoxious audience members, and aged
princesses; attendees left laughing with delight.
I think next year, I will try
to find more invites for us to compete at. We performed only
two times before districts, which we placed 5th out of eight teams.
We even competed against two other schools performing the
same play. For her role as "Sal", Desirae TePoel was named
Outstanding Performer from our school. All the students did a
great job and I am very proud of them. I look forward to
another year of success.
