It was a wonderful
year in the Resource Room. We implemented hands on learning to
reinforce basic skills and to review materials taught in the
classrooms. We tried to make learning fun while trying to cover
everything we needed to. The two subjects we put most of our focus
on were math and reading.
In reading the
students read various books such as Sarah Plain and Tall,
Are You My Mother, The Napping House, How to Eat
Fried Worms, and several books from the Magic Tree House
series. While reading these books we worked on vocabulary,
comprehension, and fluency. We also played games such as
concentration and Four-in-a-Row to increase vocabulary, but our
favorite game was jeopardy.
In math we used fun
and games to learn as well. We loved to play multiplication bingo
to help us learn our facts. When it was time to learn about liquid
capacity and comparing them we made a Mr. Gallon. To help us review
following directions and fractions we used some life skills
activities and did some microwave cooking. Then to review geometry
and basic shapes, we worked on string art projects.
I had a great time working
with the students and teaching them that learning can be fun. I am
looking forward to next year and am already working on some fun and
exciting new ways to help the students learn the basics through fun
and games. I hope everyone has a great summer and will see everyone
again in the fall.
