HOMEWORK ACADEMY

by Mary Ann Paseka
November 09, 2007

HOMEWORK ACADEMY

Begins Monday, November 12th

Homework is a very important part of a student’s learning process at Prague Public School.   Students are expected to complete homework in order to reinforce, practice and enrich class content.  As an on-going effort to improve student achievement, teachers and administrators may use the following administrative procedure to ensure homework completion.

If a student fails to turn in homework on the due date, the student will have to attend Homework Academy.  The time (3:30-4:30 p.m.) will be spent after school with the assigned teacher for that week.  The student must check in with the assigned Homework Academy teacher that day after school.  If needed, the student may then go to the classroom teacher for help on the homework to be completed.  However, the student must check out with the Homework Academy teacher.  Once the homework is completed and turned in to the Homework Academy teacher, the student may be excused.

Those who do not attend that day after school, will have to attend the next day and will also be given a detention to be served with the principal the day after the homework is completed.

When homework is not completed on the day it is due, 10% will be deducted from the homework score.  For example, if a student does not finish during the hour after school and turns the assignment in the next day, the grade will be deducted 10 %.  If the student earned a 95% on the paper, then take 90% of 95% for a score of 85.5%.  If the homework is 2 days late, then 20% will be deducted.  If it is 3 days late, then 30% will be deducted. 30% will be the lowest amount deducted as we hope the student is completed by the third day.

If a student fails to turn in homework, the student will be responsible for contacting the parents and, if needed, plan for a ride home.

Can a student ever get a zero for a homework assignment?  Yes.  If a student does not stay to complete homework and still refuses to do work in detention day after day, then a zero will be given at the end of the quarter.  If an incomplete is given at the end of the quarter due to incomplete work and the student does not complete work in the homework academy, then the score of zero will be given.
