February 28, 2008

Honor Band Day

On Saturday, Feb. 23, the Prague High School Band joined 240 middle school band students at the eighth annual “York Middle School Honor Band Day.” The other schools represented included Bancroft-Rosalie, Blue Hill, Boone Central, Centennial, Central City, Fairbury, Fillmore Central, Franklin, Freeman, Fullerton, Hastings St. Cecilia, Leigh, North Loup-Scotia, Palmer, Scotus Central Catholic, Southern Valley, St. Michael’s, St. Paul, Tri County, Twin River, Waverly and York.

Students arrived at 12:30, and spent nearly four hours rehearsing that afternoon. Clinicians Jim Kucera and Susan Hottovy kept them busy learning new techniques to help them be great musicians. They performed the final concert in the York High School Theater at 6:30 p.m.

The Prague band members present at this event were Amber Booze, flute; Katie Arp, clarinet; Brooke Vanek, tenor saxophone; Austin Wade, trumpet; Scott Paseka, trombone; and Alex Muessigmann, percussion.

Upcoming events for the band members include the Frontier Conference Honor Band, Mar. 10 at Parkview Christian School in Lincoln, with a concert at 7:00 p.m.; the Prague Spring Concert, Mar. 27 at 7:00 p.m.; and District Music Contest, Apr. 18 in Yutan.
