Science
Activities
The first and second graders had a great time this year learning
about weather in Science. They kept track of the weather each
day of the school year, measured rain, learned about different
types of clouds, and the differences in temperature. We have
each learned how to use the internet to check the weather in Prague
and different parts of the world by searching on the weather
channel’s website. The first graders did a lesson on seasons
and average temperatures. In the lesson, the students were to
dress their partner in the correct clothing for the named
season. They had a good time putting on the oversized
clothing and pretending to be playing in the season. The
second graders did a lesson on the way the water cycle works.
They learned about rain falling and the way it evaporates and turns
into water vapor. At home, they studied their own cup of
‘rain’ by measuring the amount of water in their cup each
day. They saw how the water was ‘disappearing’ or evaporating
a little each day. The students have a great time doing
hands-on experiments and activities, especially in Science.
It also helps them greatly to retain the information they are
intended to learn.
