K-2 Field Trip

by Tanya Brabec

May 08, 2009

Our class field trip was a great time! We went to the Lincoln Children’s Museum in the morning where the students had a great time sitting in the planes at the Sky High Airport. In My Town: they had a fun time pushing the shopping carts and wearing the check-out aprons. The kids served pizzas in the Valentino’s pizza shop, took X-rays at the doctor’s office and played with the stuffed animals at the veterinary clinic. We had a few kids enjoy the T.V. broadcast station and a few others enjoy life on the farm. A few other students loved to make the real hot air balloon float, or dress up in the firemen clothes. While we were at the Prairie Dog Town, the students had a blast crawling in and out of multiple tunnels and climbing in the apple tree. In Lunar Lander/Mission Control, the kids had a lot of fun in the spaceship, pushing the real buttons and pretending they were really in space. There were even ‘moon rocks’! Of course, the water, the kids had a fantastic time playing in the water at Big Splash! There were multiple ways to squirt, pour, dump, and relocate the water. There was even a real boat to explore.

Big Splash!

When we left the children’s museum we started heading towards Pioneer Park. We were excited that it wasn’t raining! It was, however, a bit chilly while we ate our lunch. The kids warmed up real soon when we all ran over and played on the monstrous playground equipment! Next thing we knew the sun was coming out and we started our hike. Most of the students had a blast on our 40 minute hike, some were worn out from the excitement from the morning. On our hike we saw injured hawks, turkeys, owls, and even a bald eagle! Our most enjoyed time was when we were able to get to the fenced in bison! We counted 9 of them! Inside the building, there was a deaf and blind barn owl (which was missing one wing) that met us at the door. We saw turtles and snakes and a bunch of stuffed animals of all kinds. We could even touch snake skin that had been shed.

We ended our trip with juice and cookies from P.I.E. We were sure thirsty after our hike!
