Kindergarten
September 01, 2009
The class of 2022 celebrated their first day of school on Monday, August 17th! This year, we have more than doubled our kindergarten class size! My ten new wonderful students are Jackson Bergman, Lisa Costanza, Zoey Haynes, Jailee Howe, Sean Jardine, Noah Paseka, Christina Pruden, Carson Reynolds, Bailey Rhynalds, and Colin Rhynalds. We began our first day of school by reading, "The Kissing Hand". This book is a perfect first day story. It's about a little raccoon ready to start school. He talks about his fears to his mother, fears that most children have before beginning school. His mother comes up with a wonderful solution to help her little raccoon remember that she loves him and is thinking about him, even when she isn't with him. It's a wonderful and heartwarming story. After our story, we took some time to check out all of the things in our room and to go over some of the rules. We then worked on our fine motor skills by making a candy bracelet. In fact, we ate our leftovers for snack! We also had a mock bus evacuation drill, fire drill, and tornado drill. After taking a tour of the school, we headed outside to play on our playground. When we headed back to our classroom, we did some free exploration of centers. It's hard to say which one was the favorite because they are all so much fun! After reading "Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten", we practiced lining up at the door while we waited to go home. Overall, it was a great day and I anticipate it to be a fabulous year filled with fun and lots of learning!
